For nature lovers, getting a piece of the natural outdoors into your home by creating a marine ecosystem is a wonderful feeling that perhaps only those who have a real passion or this hobby would understand. Fish tank decoration is important to create the kind of look and feeling that is impossible to achieve without these added effects to the fish tank
Let’s look at some of the most popular types of fish tanks decoration that are used by fish tank keepers to decorate their little marine ecosystem.
Decorations for the Bottom Floor
The best kind of decoration would be sand or quartz gravel that is arranged neatly to from a thick base. A thickness of three millimeters would be perfect for the job. The color can range from theme to theme so if you want a natural aquaculture shape go for a natural sand color that is beach or white. There is dyed version which you need to take extra caution. Some gravel can raise the pH level of the water and this can affect the fish and marine plants you may have inside.
Get some of the gravel you plan to use and mix it with household vinegar. If it buckles, it means that this gravel is calciferous and would raise the pH of your water. Don’t use it/If you plan to use substrate to hold plant roots, then use soft sand and place a layer of fertilizer. Then add gravel on top of it before you plant your marine botanicals inside as the new home for your beloved fish.
You can use fish tank rocks to create caves and rocky areas for the fish to swim in and out or to lay their eggs. Remember that you are building a complete ecosystem for them so it should mimic the natural surrounding as much as possible. Use calcium free rocks such as granite which will not raise the pH level of the water. Add some driftwood and roots to create a totally natural and beguiling appeal. These also work to soften the structure of the water and lower the pH level.
Finally add some live plants to compete the picture before you add your live fish. If you don’t fancy the hassles of cleaning and caring for these live plants, consider getting plastic plant which works just as well as live plants except that the fish can’t feed on those. The additional of those final green species brings out the real attraction of your fish tank. Now you are ready to add some fish and the ecosystem is completed.
